Domestic Violence Laws

At Andalman & Flynn, we have extensive knowledge of domestic violence laws in the Maryland area and are dedicated to providing you with the support you need through these difficult times. Our attorneys can help provide you with protection from abuse by obtaining and enforcing Protective Orders and Peace Orders, as needed. Both orders will help protect you with stay away and no contact orders in attempt to stop harmful acts and threats. They differ in that Protective Orders provide further protection that targets the special relationship between the victim and abuser, while Peace Orders can cover certain criminal acts.

More specifically, Protective Orders can include custody and visitation orders, financial support, and use of a family vehicle or home. Peace Orders, on the other hand, can protect you from:

  • Harassment
  • Trespassing
  • Malicious destruction of personal property

Ready to file a Protective Order or Peace Order? Call us immediately at 301-563-6685.

If you are the victim of domestic abuse and need immediate assistance when our office is closed, note that there are options for after-hours assistance to ensure your safety before you are able to file a more permanent protective order. If it is after 5:30 p.m. on a weeknight, the weekend, or a holiday, please contact the District Court Commissioners for assistance obtaining an Interim Protective or Peace Order for protection from abuse and violence. Our domestic violence lawyers can then provide further assistance on the first business day after obtaining your Interim Protective or Peace Order.
