Guardianship of Minor Children
Guardians play a valuable role in our society.
A legal guardian is a non-parent who takes care of a minor child. This includes providing food, shelter, access to education, and medical care. Legal guardians have the same legal responsibilities as parents do regarding care and support. While some legal guardians are state-appointed, such as in the case of foster care, most are related to the child in their care. When the parents will not or cannot effectively care for their own offspring, many loving aunts, uncles, or grandparents step in and become legal guardians.
Guardianship is advantageous for at-risk children.
It provides a temporary way of providing the same love, care and stability that a parent may be unable to offer. In addition, there’s a practical need for guardians. For example, hospitals and schools often limit the caretaking role to the child’s parents. The only legal exceptions to this regulation are guardians. At Andalman & Flynn, we believe that all children deserve to be loved and provided for, regardless of their parenting situation. If you intend to become a legal guardian, we would be honored to assist you. Our experienced family law attorneys can help you file the paperwork and take the necessary steps. And we’ll be with you all the way.
Guardians can be the most important person in the lives of minor children. If you’re considering this role, we invite you to discuss your circumstances with the experienced attorneys at Andalman & Flynn. Please contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Client Testimonial – Thoughtful Legal Guidance
“I am writing to tell you how very pleased I am with the care and attention that I received from the law firm of Andalman and Flynn. From the outset, I was impressed by the organization of the office, and the thoughtful legal guidance that I received in the areas of family law and landlord-tenant issues. My attorney, Peter Casciano, met with me when I was a walk-in client in distress. He immediately directed me to several public agencies of which I had need, and advised me in the process of becoming a client of the firm. His advice and understanding, on such short notice, was much needed and greatly… appreciated! It gave me a sense of security at a very difficult time. I was deeply impressed by Mr. Casciano’s on-going ability to listen to and understand my point of view. At all times, he provided clear information about various legal options that were open to me. I felt that I was well informed, and that I was not pressured to proceed in a particular direction. Rather, I felt encouraged to take time, to think, and to consider solutions that were most suitable to me and to my situation. It is assumed that an attorney will be knowledgeable in his field. Even so, I was impressed by Mr. Casciano’s easy grasp of any situation that I relayed to him. His recommendations were always sensible, and his skill at making legal options clear and understandable is outstanding! I felt, at all times, that Mr. Casciano was empathetic to my concerns and firm in his determination to protect my interests. Based on my experience, I would recommend Andalman and Flynn to anyone who needs a top-notch attorney. Andalman and Flynn is my law firm of choice!” Very Truly, M. Client Testimonial – I couldn’t be happier with the result that I got
“I was recommended to Ms Vann from a friend of mine. I couldn’t be happier with the result that I got. I was dealing with custody and financial support issues with the mother of my twin boys and trying in vain to do the right thing by myself. Working with Ms Vann relieved so much of the stress that I was going through. It is about six months since my case was closed and things are still going really well. I only wish that I had contacted her sooner!”
