The Social Security Administration (SSA) has set a March 1, 2013, deadline for current benefit recipients to update their financial information with SSA in order to start receiving payment of their benefits electronically. SSA is phasing out the payment of benefits via paper check in an effort to reduce costs. Current beneficiaries should immediately update their information with SSA. Failure to provide SSA with necessary information for electronic payment of benefits will not result in the beneficiary’s payments being cut off, but will result in correspondence from SSA to provide the necessary information.
