MDLC’s Advocacy Efforts
Conveniently based in Baltimore, MDLC’s mission is to advance the rights of those with disabilities throughout the state. That means giving claimants access to the resources they need—whether that means offering advice and referrals or providing individual representation and impact litigation.
Their advocacy is focused primarily on promoting public awareness of the issues facing disabled persons state-wide while granting these individuals:
- Freedom from abuse and neglect
- Freedom from unnecessary institutionalization
- Access to education, housing, health care, and transportation
- Technical assistance and legal assistance
As the state’s Protection & Advocacy agency, Maryland Disability Law Center has been granted the authority to investigate claims of suspected abuse and neglect for disability claimants within facilities.
