About Disability Rights Maryland

Disability Rights Maryland is part of the P&A system established by Congress in 1975 as a response to the poor conditions individuals with disabilities faced within facilities. Today, the local organization advocates for the rights of persons both in and out of facilities, including those with disabilities that are:

  • Developmental
  • Intellectual
  • Psychiatric
  • Physical
  • Sensory
  • Educational
  • Related to traumatic brain injury

Disability Rights Maryland is funded by several agencies in Congress under a range of grants that work to protect the civil rights of individuals with disabilities. This includes P&A agencies for Development Disabilities (PADD), Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI), and more. Disability Rights Maryland also accepts donations, pro bono assistance from other attorneys in the area, and volunteer advocates.

Disability Rights Maryland’s Advocacy Efforts

Conveniently based in Baltimore, Disability Rights Maryland’s mission is to advance the rights of those with disabilities throughout the state. That means giving claimants access to the resources they need—whether that means offering advice and referrals or providing individual representation and impact litigation.
