Social Security Retirees to Receive Cost of Living Increase

Nov 19, 2012 | Social Security Disability

Effective January 2013, Social Security beneficiaries (including Disability beneficiaries) will receive a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) increase of 1.7%.  Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive the same COLA increase of 1.7%, but that increase is effective December 31, 2012.

The 2013 COLA increase is estimated to benefit more than 64 million beneficiaries.  However, the COLA increase may be partially or entirely offset by Medicare premium increases which have not yet been announced.
