Raising the Bar for Effective Representation: Elliott Andalman Co-Moderates Disability Law Seminar

Feb 5, 2018 | Highlights

Elliott Andalman was a speaker and co-moderator at the Social Security disability law seminar sponsored by the Disability Law Section of the Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ) on Friday, January 26, 2018. The seminar speakers included two other attorneys, a NOSSCR (National Organization of Social Security Claimant Representatives) lobbyist, a representative from Congressman Jamie Raskin’s office, a vocational expert, the United States magistrate in charge of administering Social Security Disability appeals in Maryland United States District Court, and the chief administrative law judges from the Baltimore and the District of Columbia hearing offices. The seminar discussed, among other topics, the new regulations that Social Security adopted in 2016 and which were implemented in 2017. Elliott specifically discussed SSA’s elimination of the treating physician rule and the new rules regarding evaluation of medical evidence, which are likely to make it more difficult for disabled workers to win their applications for Social Security disability benefits. All seven members of the disability department of Andalman & Flynn attended the seminar.
