Very exciting news came across the wire yesterday as Senate Bill 116 was passed by the Maryland Senate. In a close 25 to 21 vote, they approved the legislation which would allow for same-sex marriages in the state. Next, the House of Delegates will vote. While the House is typically the more liberal of the two chambers, the bill’s own backers have admitted that they are a couple of votes shy of a majority, but remain hopeful the bill can still pass.
Maybe our state will join Hawaii, who just legalized same-sex civil unions.
