Over two weeks ago, I was excited to post on our blog that Maryland was a step closer to legalizing same-sex marriage. After a 25 to 21 vote in the Maryland Senate which approved the legislation, the next step was for the generally more liberal House of Delegates to vote on the measure.
However, on March 11, the Maryland House of Delegates killed the chances of this Legislation becoming law this year by returning the Bill to the House Judiciary Committee. Religious opposition and conservative Democrats feuled the defeat of this Legislation.
Although I’m disappointed, I am hopeful that this legislation will pass next year; this year there was major forward progress by winning the Senate vote.
